Lost: 44 million Americans
Each year, 44 million Americans move. That's one in five American families. (The statistics are the same in Canada.) No wonder keeping up-to-date with movers and keeping our databases from becoming stale are such huge challenges. Fortunately, there's an easy way to solve the problem using a database service called NCOA, or National Change of Address.
In both the United States and Canada, the postal services maintain a database of movers. Individuals are able to register their move for free with the USPS. In Canada, Canada Post charges a $35 fee. In both countries, the resulting move is recorded in databases for the purpose of re-directing mail. The databases are also licensed to data-processing companies for the purpose of updating mailing lists and databases electronically. Interact Direct offers NCOA in both the United States and Canada, which is how we can help you.
NCOA processing is typically performed with other data cleaning steps we offer as part of our SmartTools® suite. In the United States, we maintain mover data going back 4 years. In Canada, the data goes back 3 years. For both countries, we can match your records to the NCOA database and update your file with new addresses for the movers. It's a simple and inexpensive process that should be performed on all name and address files at least quarterly (we recommend monthly for actively mailed files).
